Zélie and Louis Zélie and Louis Martin are an inspiration to the families of today. Each owned a small business and worked hard while raising a large family. In the 19th century this two-career couple faced the challenges we face in the 21st: finding good child care; achieving professional excellence; operating a profitable business; caring for aging parents; educating a special-needs child; forming their children in the faith; finding time to pray and to be active in their parish. Devout Catholics, they saw Christ in the poor and worked for a just society.
Sts Anne and Joachim  Grandparents of Jesus.  They helped the Virgin Mary to care for him.
St Joseph  He was a carpenter and stepfather of Jesus, took his family to Egypt to save them from Herod.  We celebrate his feast day with home made traditional breads.
Saint Patrick  He converted the pagans in Ireland to Christianity. He used the shamrock to explain the Trinity: three  parts make up one whole.
St Francis

He came from a wealthy merchant family but gave it all up to follow Christ;  has many followers even today;

His prayer:  Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

St Nicholas He is the original Santa Claus.  He served in the early years of the church and was noted for his generosity to the poor.
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta She ministered faithfully to the poorest of the poor.
Pope John Paul II He suffered much hardship under Communist rule but eventually helped to bring down communism.

Apparitions of Our Lady

Our Lady of Guadaloupe in Mexico. She asked for Juan Diego to persuade the Bishop to build a chapel in her honor. Many thousands of Indians were converted.

 Our Lady of Lourdes in France  where she appeared to a young girl and asked her to pray the rosary.  She asked Bernadette to dig in dry dirt.  When she did so healing water flowed from the site.  Many miraculous healings have taken place there.

Our Lady of  Fatima in Portugal where she appeared to 3 young children, asked them to pray the rosary daily.  She performed the Miracle of the Sun and gave them three secrets to share with the pope.

Our Lady of Knock  appeared in Ireland outside  a local church.She did not speak to anyone but stayed for several hours and was seen by many

A collection of prayers.

we honor Our Lady's grandparents:  St Anne and St Joachim on their Feast day, July 26th.   We ask for their help in bringing up our children and grandchildren.

Prayer of Grandparents

God and Father of all, I ask you to bless me as a grandparent.  Give me the grace to recognize my mission toward my grandchild(name)

May I have a compassionate and generous heart in support of the parents of this child and be a model of wisdom, aging and holiness.  Help me to respect and encourage (name)'s special call to holiness.  May your Holy spirit guide and inspire me on this earthly pilgrimage.  I ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son and Our Lord who with you and the Holy Spirit are One God forever and ever.  Amen.

Grandmothers Beautitudes

Blessed is the grandmother who makes peace with spilled milk and mud pies for such is the realm of childhood.

Blessed is the grandmother who refuses to compare her grandchildren with others, for precious is the rhythm of growth of every child.

Blessed is the grandmother who has learned to laugh, for it is the music of the child’s world.

Blessed is the grandmother who can say “no” without anger, for comforting to the child is the security of a firm decision.

Blessed is the grandmother who shares her faith -  for children need hope.

Blessed is the grandmother who loves her grandchildren in the midst of a hostile world for love is the greatest of all gifts.

For Grandparents

Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary, the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne. Look with love on grandparents the world over. Protect them! They are a source of enrichment for families, for the Church and for all of society. Support them!

As they grow older, may they continue to be for their families strong pillars of Gospel faith, guardians of noble domestic ideals and living treasuries of sound religious traditions. Make them teachers of wisdom and courage, that they may pass on to future generations the fruits of their mature human and spiritual experience.

Lord Jesus, help families and society to value the presence and roles of grandparents. May they never be ignored or excluded, but always encounter respect and love. Help them to live serenely and to feel welcomed in all the years of life which you give them.

Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in your care, accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage, and by your prayers, grant that all families may one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanity for the great embrace of life without end. Amen

Mother Teresa's Anyway Poem

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Our group is planning several pilgrimages this Spring and Summer of 2016 in Southwest Pennsylvania.

In March we hope to go to visit the Mercy doors at St. Vincent's Benedictine Abbey in Latrobe and complete all the requirements for a plenary indulgence.

 June 21 we plan to go to Loretto founded by Father/Prince Gallitzin, the Apostle of the Alleghenies.
